How to Enroll a Student

Welcome to the Chestnut Ridge School District! In order to make your student’s transition process to our school smooth, please use this checklist as a helpful guide for the paperwork and enrollment procedures.  The items on the checklist are those needed to enroll your child and must be submitted back to the business office for processing.  Once the items are received and processed, you/your student will be contacted and given a schedule or appointment from the appropriate building personnel.Required Enrollment Paperwork from you:
  • Proof of Residency (ex. bills received at new address, letter signed by Land lord)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Report card or Schedule from former school (if available)
  • Custody Documentation of Educational Rights (if applicable)
  • Up to date immunization records if available (out of state students must have this to start classes)
  • If Foster Care - Official letter of documentation for student’s placement in your home and our school district.  If this is a pre-adoption situation, please indicate this in writing.
Step by Step Instructions for Enrollment

  2. Begin the pre-registration approval process
    1. Fill out student information, school preference, household information, and guardian information
    2. Click on Apply to School
  3. An email will be sent to you from [email protected] Subject: Chestnut Ridge School District: Parent Portal Setup
    1. Check the spam folder
    2. These are the steps on the email.
      1. Step 1:  Set Up a PowerSchool account
        1. If you do not already have a PowerSchool Account, you can set one up by doing the following:
          1. Open the internet browser on your computer.
          2. Type into the address bar.
          3. Click on the Create New User Tab.
          4. Fill in the information requested for your desired username and password.
        2. Enter your student's full name, Access ID, and Password (see below).
          1. If you already have a PowerSchool Account, use the Access ID and Password below to link your new student to your account
      2. Step 2: Complete Enrollment Forms
        1. In PowerSchool, select the student you are enrolling and click on the Forms link within the left navigation menu.    
        2. Complete all of the forms.
      3. Step 3: Provide Documentation
        1. Please bring the following documentation to the District Office at Chestnut Ridge Middle School between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday:
          Proof of Address
          Child's Birth Certificate
          Proof of Immunizations
          Completed Physical Form (available on school website)
          Custody Documents, if applicable
